Who am I?
How do you answer that question? Are you your age, sex and location? Are you your job? Are you your hobbies? Are you your personality? How about your faults and insecurities?
I guess it depends on who is asking the question and why they want to know.
If I were writing a blog about personal finance I would say that I’m a white male who has always held a decent paying job and always carried a lot of debt and no savings. And that recently I just paid off all my debts and don’t even consider using a credit card to make a big purchase as my first or second choice. In fact I’m about to buy my first car in 13 years because I have enough cash to buy it outright.
If I were writing a blog about health and fitness I would say that I’m 37 years old, 5’7″ and 195-ish pounds. I’m overweight at about 30% body fat and I want to change that. I’ve had a desk job for the past 10 years and I don’t like sports so my activity level is next to none. I work from home so it’s gotten worse lately. I’ve also got a discipline problem so keeping up with new activities, especially if I’m not all that enthused about them, is hard for me.
If I were writing a blog about games I would say that, well, I would say that I’m a bit of a nut about games. I enjoy playing a lot of videos games in the RPG and strategy genres. I’d love to start playing more board and card games but having moved away from everyone I know that’s proving a bit difficult. I’d probably mention my Xbox 360 and Wii game systems and the new gaming computer I bought so World of Warcraft stops choking on me.
But I don’t really have a focus for this blog. It’s about all those things and whatever else might interest me at the moment so I’m really stuck on how to answer the question, “Who am I?”.
