I jogged a full half mile today. 3.65 miles total in 58.45 minutes and burned 424 calories. My average pace for the half mile (.67 miles to be exact) was 10:23/mi. My heart rate again was almost maxed, staying around 175-180 the whole time. I tried slowing my pace down to drop my heart rate but it wasn’t happening.
I felt OK during the jog too. Slowing the pace as much as I could helped considerably. I only stopped when I felt the twinge of something in my left calve. I thought it might be a cramp so I dropped to a walk. Nothing happened, fortunately.
I did 1 sprint later on to see if I could peg my heart rate. It went to 184.
For the curious, the average marathon finish time for males is 4 hours 32 minutes* which is about a 10:22/mi pace (if my math is correct). I have to admit that 10:23 felt very slow but I imagine that after 26 miles of that I’d want to travel back in time and punch myself in the face.
The world record marathon pace was 4:45/mi. Now that’s just silly. I’m not sure I ever ran that fast back in my high school track days.
you were in track?
Yeah, just 1 year as a long distance runner. I was bad at it. I got beat by a girl in a coed meet. Of course that girl grew up running (literally) her paper route in bare feet so she had a few years of conditioning under her belt.
Good for you for getting out there!
I think I saw the wacky bare footed runner drinking a beer in Central Park the other day! She’s not so fit anymore!
